As most of you know, I enjoy sewing, gardening, cooking, and, of course, designing. Well, it is time to try something new. I have made homemade pasta, homemade bread, etc., but I have never tried to make fresh homemade cheese. I have the 10 essential steps to making cheese at home which I will list if anyone gets adventurist and wants to try also. Note that all cheeses don’ t require all 10 steps, in fact, most cultured dairy only uses the first 3 steps and most cheeses only use the first 7 steps. Any good cheese recipe should outline the steps that are needed for a particular type of cheese.
- Warm the milk, using a heavy bottomed pot
- Culture the milk: using yogurt or buttermilk
- Coagulate or curdle: by using calcium chloride or rennet in water
- Cut the curd
- Cook the curd
- Drain the curd
- Salt the cheese
- Press the cheese
- Dry the cheese
- Age the cheese
- I think my first try will be Mozzarella, wish me luck.
