A future design idea that I have been twirling around in my head has been to jump into some surface designing.
Surface design is artwork that is created by you so that it can be applied to products, for instance wallpaper, phone cases, wrapping paper, upholstery, quilting or apparel fabric, stationary, coffee mug, etc… , there are too many products to mention. It does makes you think, “someone must have had to design my tissue paper in my gift bag, and/or the picture frame on your desk”.
These items inspire me when I look at so many different products. This industry is huge and in constant need of new designs.
I personally ,am an avid seamstress, I have a learning desire to take great photos, just think what I can do with a unique photo, by sketching a design, or using a photo and then printing it on fabric? If I really wanted to make an income with surface design in the fabric industry . I would have many options with using print on demand sites, indirect selling my own unique design/designs.
I f you really wanted to go the extra mile, you could look into licensing for your unique design, direct selling (ex: craft fairs or shows), teaching, retail stores. So many options for graphic design.
Remember, be unique, be you!
