In this age of “digital clutter,” I managed several cloud accounts, which can be overwhelming. I had one for personal, business, my husband’s, and school because I did not want my personal information linked to my school computer. My school laptop was showing my business information, etc. No, no, no, I need to keep this all info separate. In my first year of school, I was told to back up my projects, files, images, etc, before they resurfaced on my laptop. So I saved it on “the cloud.” Knowing what I’ve known all these years about cloud storage was a “no worries.” situation for me. Then, when it was time to resurface my laptop, the IT department wiped it clean again. I saved all the new files and projects again to the cloud. All of this sounds straightforward until you go to retrieve it, and all the information I wanted to retrieve could not be found between these four different accounts. I panicked and drove myself crazy trying everything. I have an external drive “The Book” for my business PC, but it will not work with a Mac.
Why did I not just purchase an external drive for my Mac? This offers a straightforward solution for all my data in one physical location. (It’s a small handheld, fits in your pocket) The ease of direct access to my files without navigating through many online platforms saves valuable time. This small purchase is reliable, easy, and unlike cloud accounts, where you might be like me with account mix-ups or connectivity issues. It is a lifesaver in my eyes. Make sure you have that storage solution at your fingertips. Learn from me.
