Cropping: you can hand crop, space crop, extreme crop, or crop photos in a series, etc.
There are four basic crops, and three use special tools.
- Hand Crop is the easiest and most common, top to bottom or left to right.
- A soft crop is, instead of stopping at a hard edge, it can be feathered into infinity.
- The split crop removes an unwanted section in the middle and places words in the center.
- A stick-out example would be a wolf’s tail connects; this softens hard edges, and you can do it with masking.
- Knocking out -masking
- A false crop is on top of an image, covering it.
- Shape crop- Cut to the shape of something else; for example, if you were designing a CD, the round shape with a hole in the middle.
Remember that when cropping, consider that this is what our eyes see: line, shape, value, and negative space. Also, do not leave a little sliver of white when cropping a person; don’t crop toes or fingers. Decide if you want to show it or not.
